Google chrome is slowly and gradually making its place in the browser market and is being like by more and more people daily. Firefox is still a superior browser that others as its has lots of Plugins, extensions and themes. So in order to come in competition with Firefox, chrome is also coming up with lots of Plugins, Extensions and Themes. Lets look at some of these useful chrome add ons.

Google Chrome Bookmarklet: PageRank Status Checker - Check the Google PageRank & Alexa Rank

The current developer version of Chrome supports extensions since May 12, 2009. I developed a PageRank Extension for Chrome, it’s a really toolbar extension that automatically shows Google PageRank of the current web page. With IE or Firefox, we can install Google Toolbar and Alexa Toolbar to check the Google PageRank and Alex Rank. Unfortunately, the current version of Google Chrome doesn’t support any extensions such as Google Toolbar and Alex toolbar. So I developed a Javascript Plug-in that allows Google Chrome user to check the PageRank of the page you are browsing. It’s a bookmarklet(a bookmark containing JavaScript) in practice, you can also use it in FireFox, Safari or Inetnet Explorer.

Search Selected Text with Google Chrome

One Firefox addon i used quite often was a Context Search and what this done was added a selection of Search Engines and useful sites that would enable you to highlight text or a domain on a webpage then launch a search for the selected text on the chosen website. It was a great time saver because you didn’t need to open another tab for the particular site, then copy and paste your text in to the search box and hit search.

In technical terms, AdSweep is a user javascript that defines CSS rules based on the web site you are visiting to hide elements of the page that show advertisements.
